Reno Hot Air Balloon Race
Jenny and I left Orland at 5 pm for Reno last Friday to attend the Reno Hot Air Balloon Race. We got up at 3:30 on Saturday morning and arrived at Linda's home about 4 am. Tim graciously gave the three of us a ride to where the race was held (about 15 minutes from their home). There were 91 hot air balloons scheduled to take off that morning and participate in the race. We were early enough to watch the dawn patrol with about 5 thousand other spectators. We really enjoyed the experience and can hardly wait for next year.

You can see their crews at the base of each balloon. The string of lights in the background are cars on McCarran Blvd. waiting to get into the park for the 7 AM
This photo was taken just before sunrise. You can begin to appreciate the number of people attending the event and also see some of the hot air balloons getting ready for take off. They use cold air fans to inflate the balloons while they are on their side. Once inflated the helium burners are started to bring each balloon to the upright position.
