    The gentleman at the table was collecting money for the toilet. The price to use the facility was one sole (about 35 cents). As you can see, there was no door and both men and women used the bathroom at the same time. The toilets in rural Peru also had no seats and many lacked toilet paper.

    Most housing throughout Peru had similar construction. The first floor was typically the family business and the floors above were where the families lived. Many had 3 to 5 floors. The roofs of most homes were not finished because in Peru only completed houses had to pay taxes to the government.

    This open well was covered by tin. The water level in this well appeared to be pretty shallow (as evidenced by the bucket used to obtain well water).
