Zion National Park
On November 9 and 10'th I was fortunate to attend a photo workshop in Zion National Park. The highlight of the weekend was on Sunday when our group of ten hiked the Virgin River in an area called The Narrows. This hike was rated extreme because we walked five miles in the river. The water was 45 degrees while the outside temperate at 6 a.m. was 48 degrees. We wore dry pants and special boots to keep us dry. We also had our camera gear in water tight bags in our backpacks in the event we fell into the water. Most of the hike was between shin and waist deep in the water. We did find areas of silt and rock buildup to take photos thoughout the day. The most impressive part of the hike was in The Narrows. At this point the river is about 15 feet wide and the rock walls on each side of the canyon were well in excess of 500 feet. I really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to anyone.
